Monument record 403/0/22 - Post-medieval farm, Barby
Please read our guidance about the use of Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Archaeological evaluation revealed the presence of a series of post‐medieval features including a ditch and a structural feature interpreted as either a wall or drain as well as building foundations. These are consistent with the remains of a farm known to have occupied the site as corroborated by early Ordnance Survey mapping.

Full Description
{1} A programme of archaeological trenching evaluation was undertaken by ULAS at 19 Rugby Road, Barby in July 2025. The archaeological evaluation found evidence of a series of post‐medieval features including a ditch and a structural feature interpreted as either a wall or drain as well as building foundations. Although the site lies within the medieval core of the village the results of the excavation recorded post medieval features with just a suggestion of medieval activity in the area from two abraded sherds of pottery. The broader site exhibits significant post‐medieval activity, some predating the earliest Ordnance Survey mapping, and reflects a sequence of demolition and subsequent redevelopment.
