Monument record 86/0/47 - Possible prehistoric settlement, east of Ordnance Road

Geophysical suvey undertaken has identified an oval enclosure, partial enclosure, ring ditch, possible trackways and other responses of interest.

{1} Geophysical survey undertaken in 2023 has found evidence for anomalies that are most likely to be archaeological in origin. Along the western border of the site, an oval enclosure has been identified, which measures 21m by 26m. A break in the outer ditch on the north-western side could mark the location of an entrance. Several trends, pits and discrete anomalies have been recorded within the vicinity which are also likely to have archaeological origins. In the southwest corner of the survey area, several discrete ditch-like responses, pits and trends are visible which appear to form a complex of archaeological anomalies. A three-sided enclosure has been detected amongst these anomalies which measures 50m by 35m. Numerous ditch-like anomalies are visible east of the enclosure, and one is visible extending south from it beyond the limits of the survey. They could mark the location of a ditched trackway, or may even form smaller enclosures. In the south of the site a partial circular response, which is comprised of discrete anomalies and trends, measures 19m in diameter and may mark the location of a barrow. The southern extend of the feature could be obscured by the neighbouring disturbance.
