Full Description
{1} The geophysical survey identified an anomaly running across the central part of Area 1 comprising two approximately parallel linear arrangements of magnetic anomalies. Although parts of the alignments appear as ditch-like features, much of their length is formed by discrete pit-type responses. Together these anomalies create a corridor-like feature extending across the site. The feature is interpreted by the survey as either a trackway or an avenue defined by pits or former timber posts. The central section is less clearly defined than the remainder of the feature and may contain evidence for an associated post-built structure. The route appears to be orientated towards a concentration of cropmarks beyond the south-eastern survey boundary, recorded elsewhere as conjoined prehistoric enclosures and a possible roundhouse. This apparent spatial relationship suggests that the routeway formed part of a wider prehistoric landscape.
