| Author/Originator | Thomas Cockcroft |
| Date/Year | 2026 |
Abstract/Summary
A magnetometer survey of 35 hectares of land north of Banbury Lane, Middleton Cheney has recorded magnetic responses that have been interpreted as being of archaeological interest. In the north-east of the site a small settlement complex has been identified; it comprises at least four enclosures which in turn encompass numerous smaller compounds or paddocks, plus ring ditches and pits. South of this settlement, two lines of pits plus short ditch lengths are visible; these mark the route of an avenue or trackway. Elsewhere in the data are weaker responses which are also likely to be of archaeological interest, but their interpretation is less clear. Ridge and furrow cultivation has been detected across the survey areas. Uncertain anomalies are also visible in the data and may be due to archaeological, natural or agricultural processes. Former field boundaries, modern ploughing and natural anomalies have also been marked.
