Summary

In 1826, during the irrigation of a field in this lordship called Addington's Meadow, near the river Ouse in the direction of Brackley, were found several hundred Roman coins of Nero, Domitian, Alexander, Probus, Carausius, Constantine and others. Northampton Museum have no information concerning the present location of the above coins save that "some" are probably in their own collection. Possibly a 4th century hoard.

{1} (SP 59353564) Roman coins found AD 1826 (TI)

{3} - "In 1826, during the irrigation of a field in this lordship called Addington's Meadow, near the river Ouse in the direction of Brackley, were found several hundred Roman coins of Nero, Domitian, Alexander, Probus, Carausius, Constantine and others" (SP 5935) (The field in which the find-spot is placed is named on the OS 6" 'Lower Addington's')

{5} Coins (probably hoard), several hundred in number, of Nero, Domitian, Severus Alexander, Probus, Carausius, Constantine etc, found 1826 in draining Addington's Meadow.

{8} In 1826 several hundred coins, probably part of a hoard, were dug up in a field called Addington's Meadow (SP594357) during drainage work.

{11} British hoards containing Victorinus' coins (265-267AD) have been found at … Evenley

{13} SP5935 3565. Cites three descriptions: Roman coins found AD1826; from large vase upwards of 3000 coins found; Roman vase of pottery containing 3000 coins of Gallienus etc. Descriptions 2 and 3 are undoubtedly the same but years and locations of finds differs.

{15} A hoard of several hundred Roman copper coins, covering the reigns of Diocletian, Maximianus I (most of the hoard), Constantius Chlorus and Constantine I.

{17} Northampton Museum have no information concerning the present location of the above coins save that"some" are probably in their own collection. The published site falls within Evenley Park and is now pasture. CRO could not confirm the field name. (Research proves this to be a separate hoard to that noted on SP 53 NE 6 although no additional important information was gained)

{18} A hoard of at least 3153 coins was discovered near Evenley (SP 5835) (Brackley, Northamptonshire) in a common earthenware vase. They ranged from the last year of Valerian to the accession of Constantine as Caesar, ie 260 to 306 AD.
