Full Description

{3} Finds from 1842: Roman pottery, one pewter plate and a fragment of a 2nd. Found in Hill Spinney although thought to be Newbottle Spinney. Now in Northampton Museum

{4} Confusion of Newbottle with Nobottle.

{6} Finds in 1842 were probably made during quarrying.

{8} - `Romano British pottery and plate of pewter or lead found in Hill
Spinney, Newbottle. Now in Northampton Museum.' (Hill Spinney not located, Newbottle at SP 5236).

'Hill Spinney' is not known in Newbottle, but 'Newbottle Spinney' (SP 517 365) is on a hill. It has extensive surface quarrying and may be the site intended. Northampton Museum have no record of the finds.

{9} - Field name survey (1932) in CRO Northampton does not list 'Hill Spinney'.
