Excavation of a section across Watling Street uncovered a single side ditch and evidence of road metalling

{1} Excavation of a section across Watling Street uncovered a single side ditch and evidence of road metalling.

{2} A machine cut trial trench was excavated across Watling Street, some 150m to the north of the hand dug trench [HER no 447/1/2]. The base of a probable side ditch was found, some 18m to the west of the centre of the road.

{5} Walk-over inspection of Watling Street between SP58007123 and SP56747351. Currently in good or very good condition with no major current sources of active damage.
