Full Description

{2} In the south west corner of the castle mound are traces of stonework said to be the abutments of a feature called the Japanese Bridge and perhaps the relic of an 18th or 19th-century garden feature

{3} A limestone and brick structure with a base set 2m above the level of the lane and its top bein flush with the garen surface. Remains of the abuttment of a small footbridge that connected the viacarge garden to the castle earthwork, which once formed part of the vicarage garden. The bridge's presumed arched nature, with its vaguely oriental look no doubt accounts for its acquiring its japanese association. The bridge was dated to the 19th/ 20th century.
