Full Description
{1}Ditches and metalled road surface possibly associated with Alchester Road, no evidence was detected of defences. Information source, minor excavation by R Turland in a garden to the side of 27 Richmond Road.
{3}An area of gravel and cobbles was found during a watching brief at 27 Richmond Road. Truncated by modern development, it was at least 5m wide and 5m long. Relating this information to the earlier trench was difficult due to disturbance, but it is likely that this area of cobbles also relates to the course of the Alchester Road.
{4} Plan of features found in 1983 trench. Accompanying letter is concerned with a clay feature found on the eastern edge of the trench and its possible origin since it doesn't appear to be associated with the road. Possibly part of the 17th century defences?
