Full Description

{1} Romano-British pottery was found on a building site.

{2} A watching brief along the foundation trenches identified a bank possibly relating to the defensive rampart, together with an area of limestone and cobblestone metalling set within clay at the rear. Small amounts of mostly second century pottery were associated with the feature.

{3} A small portion of the broad defensive zone created by the Romans in the late 2nd century may have been identified, thereby supporting the alignment previously suggested (Woodfield 1992, fig 2).
