Full Description

{1} Redeposited Roman greywares and oxidised ware dating to the second to fourth centuries was found along with roof tile and at least three fragments of box flue tile

{2} No pre-cemetery features found in excavations. But Prehistoric, Roman and Early Saxon pottery found. Among the Roman finds were Roman brick and tile. The latter included some box flue tile fragments. Hypocaust or bath suite. Most potsherds and tile fragments were small however and need not be derived from the immediate vacinity of the excavations. Nevertheless the finds are consistent with the evidence from previous excavations and chance discoveries indicating the presence of a high status Roman site in the old town area.
