{1} A Roman kiln is said to have been discovered and destroyed during construction of the M1; no details known.

{2} Information from site labourer working on M1 and therefore suspect.

{3} (SP 61976439) RB kiln found during building of M1 and bulldozed (per D Smith June 1967)

{4} SP 620643 A Roman kiln, containing some pots, found during motorway construction.

{5} "Information about the Whilton kiln was given to me orally by Mr David Smith, Northampton. He said a labourer who worked on the M1 motorway had reported the find to him. This site is therefore very suspect."
