Summary

Fieldwalking survey in in 1964 identified a scatter of Roman pottery in association with iron slag. A geophysical survey identified at least two ditched enclosures and a more extensive fieldwalking survey identified Romano-British pottery over a wide area.

Full Description

{1} Found March 1964 by R Moore;

{2} Nene Valley wares and 2nd-century grey wares have been found, as well as iron slag at SP 6938 6345.

{3} Geophysical survey of an area c60m x 60m. Part of a sub-rectangular ditched enclosure was identified and within it was a tear-drop shaped anomaly. A sparse scatter of possible pits or possible areas of burning were also identified.

{4} Fieldwalking survey undertaken by CLASP as part of the Local People: Local Past Project identified a significant scatter of Romano-British pottery across the entire survey area. There are 1,019 Romano-British pottery sherds, weighing about 6 kilos, equivalent to 618 sherds per hectare.
