Full Description

{1} At the north end of the trench the gravel was overlain by a sandy clay, probably alluvial in character, up to 1m thick. This was cut by a shallow trench, possibly the foundation trench for a timber building, which in turn was overlain by a redeposited alluvial clay and a layer of metalling. This feature and the overlying deposits are probably of late Saxon or early medieval date.
