Monument record 5390 - Neolithic/Bronze Age Ritual Complex at West Cotton

A complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments excavated in connection with the Raunds Project. [See individual records for further information.]

{1} Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments, Saxon and Medieval settlements, excavation by D. Windell for NCC.

{2} The settlement of West Cotton occupies a slightly raised gravel platform at the eastern edge of the floodplain of the River Nene, but was originally slightly above the floodplain, the likely reason for its choice as the site for a substantial Neolithic to early Bronze Age ritual complex.
An unexpected by-product of the excavations was the location fo a substantial Neolithic to early Bronze Age ritual complex underlying the medieval hamlet and extending beyond to both the north and south.
