Full Description

{1} 1979 excavation by A.Hannan and K.Brown. Medieval stone buildings, pits, ditches and stone walls. Finds of medieval pottery sherds, the majority Potterspury ware but also Lyveden, Midland White and Brill wares, and a sandy grey/black fabric.

{2} A 20m fenced corridor scraping cut by the an AWA pipe exposed a number of features, this included a number of houses and a hollow way with almost 330 sherds of unstratified pottery. The pottery assemblage included Pottersbury Wares, Lyvden types, Midlands White Ware and Brill Ware.

{3} The more substantial house remains lay on the west side of the hollow way. One stone footing followed the line of the way and was intersected by other footings at right angles. In one of the quadrants created by these walls, stones had been laid to form a pavement and the majority of pottery was found on this surface. Forward of the main stone footing, and following the slope into the sunken road was a spread of tumble, possible associated with the collapse of the front wall of the building.
