Full Description

{1} Early Romano- British sherds were found at SP 98977419, Ringstead. The sherds, coarse, and grey ware, were recovered along with kiln bars from features in a pipeline trench.

{2} RCHM records that Iron Age pits and ditches are said to come from the same site but the location given is probably incorrect.

{4} Fieldwalking during 1980's did not recover any evidence of kiln bars wasters or related debris - it is now uncertain where the original finds were made along the pipe trench.

{5} The above siting is correct, the pipeline can be seen in the plough running from SW-NE through this point. No surface finds were made.
The finds made by Mr Rollings in Sept 1967 are in his possession.

{6} The sherds are dated to the first and second centuries. Pits, ditches and kiln waste were also found.
