Full Description
{1} South of the village on Boulder Clay at 220ft above OD. Roman pottery and pieces of kiln bars were found in a number of pits and/or ditches cut by a pipe trench. At the same site, Iron Age ditches and pits are said to have been found, but the location given is probably incorrect.
{2} Iron Age pits/ditches; location probably incorrect. Fairly large Belgic site; some fine butt Beaker sherds; Ref 2 gives SP 911744;
{3} Early Romano-British sherds found at SP 98977419 by A E Rollings in 1967;
{4} Five Romano-British pot sherds were found by a farmer (Mr Bates) in the spoil heap for the pipeline; info from S Parry; (21/3/1986)
{5} Romano-British sherds were revealed during building operations in 1965. Several pits, presumably rubbish pits, were noted.
{7}Cropmark complex and fieldwalking finds suggesting possible Iron Age and Roman farmstead with associated agricultural enclosures. It comprises series of rectilinear ditches and enclosures on a NE SW alignment - appear to be of a single phase or successive development.Cropmarks have a combined length of 370m and form an L-shape with enclosures to the north offset to the west. Enclosures divided into smaller land parcels. Possible drove road represented by double ditch.
Cropmarks observed on aerial photographs of 1982 comprising rectilinear enclosures and two parallel ditches. NCCAP:SP9974/1-24(+);
Fieldwalking recovered concentration of middle-late Iron Age and early Roman pottery in and around cropmark complex. Decline in late Roman pottery suggests site may have been abandoned in mid 3rd century. Dense concentration of Roman pottery 85m east of the cropmarks.,
{8}Finds; 5 RB pot sherds; found by farmer in spoil heap of pipeline (12/3/1986);
{9} Complex of conjoined rectangular enclosures in 1982.
