Summary

Possible medieval windmill mound site, located south east of the village on the east side of the road to Mears Ashby. In 1899 a low mound was excavated in this area and charcoal, iron bolts, unspecified pottery, part of a knife, animal bones and a Nuremburg token of the 14th century were recovered. Full Description

{1} Excavation of a low mound, 35m in diameter and 1m high was undertaken in 1899. There was a clay lined depression which was 8m wide in the mound with another layer of clay above. It was asssumed to be a windmill mound. There were finds of pottery, iron bolts, part of a knife, animal bone and a 14th century Nuremburg token; fieldnames suggest it was a windmill (Windmill Field).
