Full Description

{1} The medieval deer park pale survives as a rampart; it was once continuous but now only the north-east boundary survives as a bank 0.5 - 1.0m high, immediately north of the modern hedge. It survives in the north-west as a field boundary hedge on its crest. The bank, having passed through an area of quarrying meets the modern road to Aldwincle. Later re-alignment of this road destroyed the bank and only a wide ditch, cut into the underlying limestone, remains. The ditch then follows the Aldwincle-Wadenhoe parish boundary down to the River Nene, so forming the south-east side of the park.
