Full Description

{1} Numerous burials and much disturbed human bone were present but individual grave cuts and the sequence of the burials were indistinguishable. Fragments of coffin furniture, medieval and post medieval sherds and three early Anglo-Saxon sherds including one from a decorated urn (residual) were seen.
At one point a brick-lined burial vault was partially exposed beneath its original limestone capping. It contained the remains of a single burial together with wooden coffin fragments which included one piece with the initial letter 'W' picked out in brass studs. The vault is provisionally dated to the C18th or later.
Two possible robbed out, narrow stone walls were seen, with the surface between containing two sherds of Lyveden/Stanion ware. The feature overlay at least one phase of graveyard burials. The narrowness of the walls might indicate that they were part of a demolished vault or other graveyard structure.
A further possible medieval wall and two C18th/19th drains were seen at the south of the churchyard.

{4} Present boundary shown but may have changed over time.
