Monument record 3005/0/6 - Ice House, west of The Grange

Probably dates to the 18th century. Locally listed building

{4} There was a dovecote north of the church on the site of the present ice-house mound. Aerial photos NCCAP: SP7073/002-4.

{5} It comprises a roughly circular earth mound that is now covered in thick vegetation. On its south east side it has a small doorway with a timber plank door and a brick arched lintel above, which presumably leads into the domed chamber of the icehouse.

{6} Depicted on the 1839 Tithe map as a circular structure surrounded by trees. The large pond immediately to the north would have been the source of the ice.
