Full Description
{1} Fieldwalking recovered Neolithic and early Bronze Age flints.
{2} (SP7470) A report on prehistoric activity on the light soils of central Northamptonshire including Brixworth. In a collection of 241
flints from Upper Park, there were, 66 blades, 65 microliths, 36 scrapers and 23 utilized flakes. A mention is also made of prehistoric urns found in the parish.
{3} Sites 9-13, Upper Park were reported on. The sites all lay in the same modern field and were not identified separately and were analysed as one assemblage. The cores had been roughly worked to obtain no more than 4 flakes and 20% had one or more platforms worked to more than 90% of the surface. The proportion of cores to waste flakes was 1:24. The ratio, much smaller than other known sites in England also seems to have occurred at Ecton. Preferred scraper length is 3-4cm and breadth 2-3cm. The scrapers have a wide range of thicknesses and perhaps implies that they belong to a mixed group dating from the early Neolithic to early Bronze Age periods.
