Monument record 3124/0/18 - Medieval closes

Most of the features appear to be field boundaries or boundary banks which form enclosures, though a rectangular feature suggests the possible remains of a building. This may be an area of settlement shrinkage.Possible medieval to post-medieval earthworks are visible on historical aerial photographs.

{1} Beyond Station Road, a number of closes, bounded by low banks and much disturbed by later quarrying, still survive on either side of a shallow valley.

{2} Possible medieval to post-medieval earthworks are visible on historical aerial photographs and were mapped as part of the Bedford Borough NMP project. Most of the features appear to be field boundaries or boundary banks which form enclosures, though a rectangular feature at SP 92824 65788 suggests the possible remains of a building. This may be an area of settlement shrinkage.
