Full Description

{1} Features observed in 1973-4 during quarrying. A trackway 2-2.5m wide x 50m long, running east-west. Comprised of thin layers of limestone fragments, brushwood and in places vertical timber reinforcements. Finds included Romano-British pottery, human bones and a fragment of roof tile. From the black clay layer surrounding the track came more Romano-British pottery, animal bones (including an antler tool) and part of a Romano-British or Early Saxon leather shoe.
Feature identified in 1974-5 during quarrying. The "metalled track or road" continues westwards into Irthlingborough parish for 400m before turning south-west for another 250m. At its E end a second metalled track was observed running NNW for 600m [HER no 3155/1/2].

{6} The east end of the Roman trackway or road referred to above {1}, which was observed extending NNW would seem to be the road that heads towards the Roman town which was excavated at SP 95435 69165 [HER No 3200/0/21].
