Summary

A D-shaped ditched enclosure of possibly Iron Age but probably Roman date is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. Roman pottery pebbles and a quernstone indicate a settlement.

Full Description

{1} SP92786012 Dungee Corner, D-shaped enclosure of c.0.5acres photographed from the air in 1965.

{2} Enclosure and Roman settlement (SP 9275 6010) in the NW of the parish, immediately W of the Roman Road 170, on Boulder Clay at 95 m. above OD. Air photographs (in NMR) show a cropmark of a small D-shaped enclosure. Just outside it to the SE Roman pottery, pebbles, limestone rubble and a quernstone have been found.

{3} Mr Hall described this as a small occupation site, and in the same field at SP 92596001 is a similar one which may be part of the same complex.

{4} RB sherds, pebbles, limestone and a quernstone have been found at 928601 in the parish of Bozeat (from context a field scatter).
