Monument record 3393/0/5 - Iron Age Pits & Ditches

A number of pits and ditches were observed during the excavation of a gas pipeline in 1966. Iron Age pottery was found in the spoil.

{1} Pits or ditches have been noted on the surface and some Iron Age pottery was discovered in the spoil heaps of a pipeline trench cut across the area in 1960.

{3} Gas pipe trench dug in 1966. Some pits or ditches seen in a patch of sand and a few sherds of Iron Age pottery found in the spoil. In the adjoining fields to the east were a number of features but no dating evidence was found.

{4} The pipeline crosses the field within 50 metres to the north west of the indicated site. No recent finds have been recorded and the material recorded above was not apparently retained. The area is at present under crop.
