Summary
1st to 4th century Romano British pottery and a limestone scatter with roof and flue tiles noted over an area of about 5 hectares. Excavations in 1961-2 and 1964 showed enough evidence pointing to a possible Roman villa.

Full Description
{3} Finds include worked flints, animal bones, late Iron Age pottery, Roman pottery and coins of the 1st to 4th centuries, bone objects, a bronze buckle and bell, iron nails, an iron chain, a glass bead and querns. Roman roof and flue tiles and a scatter of limestone have also been recorded.
{5} Iron Age and Romano-British pottery sherds from the field to the east.
{7} The bone objects included a spindle whorl; the querns were of both the saddle and rotary kind; the coins included examples of Claudius I, Antoninus Pius, Marcus Aurelius, Julia Domna, Gallienus, and the house of Constantine.

{12} SP 820581 Oxpath, Brafield: A considerable quantity of 1st-4th century RB pottery and a limestone scatter with roof and flue tiles, noted over an area of about 5 hectares. Excavations 1961-2 and 1964 showed a flint wall foundation overlying 3rd-4thc ditches containing pottery coal, charcoal and iron slag. Two small clay-lined bowl-shaped hearths, or possibly reheating furnaces for iron, were found,also two pits with possible kiln waste and a length of iron chain. Surface finds include worked flints, animal bones, quernstones, iron slag, nails, iron key, fragment of a bronze bell and a glass bead; also seven Ro. coins. Finds in Northampton Museum.
