Find Spot record 3593/0/14 - Unstratified Romano-British Finds

Fieldwalking in 1968 north of Rivet's Lodge located a large area of stone scatter and Roman pottery, mainly grey and colour coated wares. One piece of clay roofing tile was also found. A Romano-British stone column shaft was also found in 1971.

{1} SP863672. Fieldwalking in the area of this previously reported site in February 1971 located a limestone pillar in the hedge where it had been thrown after being ploughed up. It is 46cm high and 35cm round with a raised collar 10cm from one edge. There were also incised straight lines radiating from one point of the collar. There were some areas of burning.

{2} Bath-type stone column shaft found in 1972 at SP863672 after ploughing. Details of find including drawing.

{3} Fieldwalking recovered Romano-British pot sherds, building stone and roof tile. A Romano-British stone column shaft was also found in 1971. The area defined lies south-west of the quoted NGR.

{1}13 coins ranging from Tetricus I to Honorius were found with other material including a small lead die and a copper furniture terminal, found by J Evans in 1990.
