Summary

An ancient dagger or rapier was found under the church and credited to prehistoric (Bronze Age?) date. A fragment of rapier in Northampton Museum may be a second find.

Full Description

{1} A rapier was found at Pytchley, probably of Middle Bronze Age.

{3} Find of part of a Bronze Age rapier, classified as Group III Lisburn Class. Found before 1893, possibly beneath the church. Plate 31.

{6} SP 8601 7477: A dirk or rapier was found under the parish church. The item is known as Varients Type Ely because it has a constricted butt.

{7} A rapier-shaped blade of bronze, now in Northants Museum was found at Pytchley.

{8} A fragment of an Middle Bronze Age rapier from Pytchley is in Northants Museum. They have no closer siting information.
