Full Description

{1} The wall is 100m long and survives up to 8 courses high towards its northern end. Elsewhere it has been extensively robbed. It is 0.5m wide and faced with ashlar limestone including re-used mouldings etc. The entrance is 15m from the north end.

{2} A substantial stone wall incorporating several re-used architectual fragments. The source of these pieces is unknown but might have originated from the site of the nearby Barton Seagrave Castle.

{3}Stonework at Barton Seagrave. Discovery of "decorated " stone and other masonry as follows:- 1) During refurbishment of Tithe Barn Cottage, St. Botoloph's close, Barton Seagrave. 5 pieces retained by the owner. 2) From a crumbling stone wall bordering the lower side of the cricket pitch off A6 and running parallel to Powell Lane. At least 9 worked pieces, possibly including roll-mouldings. The pieces may be from a building of some architectural importance- manor house or castle.
