Monument record 3871 - Probable late prehistoric/Roman settlement, north-west of Hockhill Farm
Please read our guidance about the use of Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Faint cropmarks of a probable late prehistoric settlement comprising enclosures, ditches and a trackway were observed on aerial photographs in 1982. Geophysical survey has indicated that the settlement is more complex than suggested by the cropmark evidence and extends further east, possibly a incorporating a 'ladder' enclosure/settlement. Several ring ditches have also been identified within the 'ladder' enclosure. Some of the cropmarks plotted during the Northants NMP have not been subsequently identified during the geophysical survey; in particular those extending north-south probably reflect former ridge and furrow cultivation.
