Summary

Earthworks of former medieval manor house

Map

Type and Period (3)

Full Description

{1} The site of the manor house is now marked by a number of rectangular scarps, nowhere above 1m high, and forming no coherent pattern.
On a map of 1587 the field is called 'Hall Yarde' and the accompanying schedule has a note: 'The Hall Yarde, divided in to two parts, where comstime stood the Manor House'. Local tradition asserts that much worked stone has been removed from the area for construction of houses in the village.

{3} Noted during Field investigation; a series of earthworks centred at SP.899945 and comprising in part the turf-covered line of a wall adjacent to possible building foundations. All as surveyed.
Mr. W. Spendlove, the owner, confirming the Field name, stated that local tradition placed a former Hall here, and added that much worked stone had been removed for the construction of houses in
the village.

{4} Report and survey of Authority {1} acceptable.
