Monument record 4301/0/1 - Possible Medieval Dam and Pond

Remains of large earth dam. Dam and pond shown on 1840 tithe map.

{1} Dam (SP 774754) lies NW of the deserted village of Faxton SP77NE2, across a small valley draining S and cut into Jurassic Clay at 135 m. above OD. It was formerly in the parish of Faxton. It consists of a broad earthen bank up to 2.5 m. high with a modern gap in the centre. A small pond lies behind it but the original pond is not
shown on the 1746 map of Faxton, but on the Tithe Map of 1840 both the pond and dam are carefully drawn.
