Summary
A Neolithic flint axehead was found in April 1956 by a Mr Galleyhawk in the grounds of Poplar Farm. In 1969, Mrs Galleyhawk informed an Ordnance Survey field investigator that the findspot was in what was the garden of her old house, but by 1970 was part of a road verge. it had been found among the foundations of old cottages, and she suggested that it may have been a "cottager's curio".

Full Description
{1} A polished flint axe was dug up in the garden of Poplars Farm in April 1956. It was coloured dark brown to black with several yellow patches. Polished finger grips and a flattened top edge suggest hand use. 108mm long x 50mm wide tapering to 19mm, and a maximum thickness of 25mm.
{2} A polished flint axe has been found in the parish.
{4} Find of 1956. A Neolithic polished flint axe, dark brown to black. 108mm x 50mm wide x 25mm thick. Found in the foundations of cottages. May have been a cottagers curio. Found on Poplars Farm and brought to museum for identification.
{6} Mrs Galleyhawk, now of 3 Council Houses, Brixworth Road, Holcot, pointed out the find-spot at SP 7939 6971 in what was once the garden of her old house, but is now part of a road verge. It was found among foundations of old cottages, and may therefore have been a Cottager's curio.
