Full Description

{2} Manor house and associated earthworks lie within a large rectangular area bounded to the north by Pury End Road, to the east by Church Lane and to the west by a double scarp or terraceway which runs south from Pury Lane along the valley side and down to a small stream. Beyond the stream the southern boundary continues as a well marked bank with ditches on each side, extending eastwards to a point just west of The Green.
In 1972 a trial excavation was carried out across the terraceway; two deeply cut V-shaped ditches were discovered. The upper ditch contained medieval pottery but the lower contained Roman pottery.

{3} Manorial earthworks and enclosure ramparts.

{4} Possible Roman settlement (about SP 713455). A trial trench across the site revealed a V-shaped ditch containing Roman coarse wares and a fragment of a mortarium.
