Full Description
{1}Find made 10/05/1926 of a mammoth tusk at 'Dallington Brickyard'; now in Northampton Museum; In 1927 a mammoth tusk was found; in 1929 a mammoth tusk and hipbone was found at the same site, also in Northampton Museum; further mammoth remains were also found at this brickyard. Finds of 2 mammoth tusks from Martin's Brickyard, Dallington at SP747614. Now held in Northampton Museum. Mammoth tusks found near Spencer Bridge in 1932.
{2} A large number of finds has been discovered in the area north of Spencer Bridge on the west bank of the River Nene, where clay was extensively worked for bricks in the 1920s-30s. From `Dallington Brickyard' are recorded a mammoth tusk, another mammoth tusk, a mammoth and hipbone and mammoth remains. From `Martin's Brickyard'(c. SP 747614) are recorded two mammoth tusks (NM). Mammoth tusks from `near Spencer Bridge' and remains of mammoths from `Martin's pit', both recorded in 1932 may be the same find as the last reference. A mammoth tooth recorded as from Dallington is presumably from this area also.
