Full Description
{1} Excavation undertaken in 1967-8. The ditches of two sides of a rectangular enclosure were sectioned. The enclosure had been recorded as a cropmark in 1964, a rectangular double ditched enclosure at SP 764574. There were 3 phases of construction in total and the latest phase dated to the first half of the 1st century AD. The finds recovered included Iron Age pot sherds, worked animal bone, daub, possible fire bars, a blade of an iron sickle, an iron knife, a bronze belt fitting and various other iron and bronze objects. An Iron Age Potin coin (Class II) was also found. A piece of human skull with evidence of trepanation was also found. SP764574.
{3} Trial excavation undertaken in 1987 by M. Shaw, prior to housing development. There were a large number of features cutting the subsoil. A ditch continued the line of an enclosure ditch which was excavated by Woods and shown in aerial photographs by Hollowell; the lack of finds suggests that this was an area on the periphery of Iron Age settlement.
{9} Iron Age ditches observed during a watching brief by M.Shaw and A.Williams.
