Full Description

{1} Garden of 'Old Cooper's Lodge', Lodge Lane. Since about 1962, digging by Mr and Mrs Eaton has uncovered many Roman sherds, a near complete pot, hearths, a post hole and pit, all presumably Roman. A layer of rounded stones up to about 4in in diameter has been discovered at various places and it may have been a cobbled floor or yard. The pottery includes one mortarium, two Samian, a few grey-ware and many red-brown sherds. Other finds include part of a red-brown brick or kiln-bar and fragments of baked clay, possibly from a kiln dome. All the finds, of 1st or 2nd century date are retained by the finders

{2} Since 1962 various finds have been made dating to the 1st and 2nd centuries. Finds included Roman pottery (Samian, mortaria, grey and red-brown wares), as well as part of a kiln bar and fragments of baked clay, possibly part of a kiln dome.
