Full Description
{5} At SP648680 elements of a settlement were identified by aerial photography including more than eight enclosures, two parallel ditches, a double-ditched enclosure and a ring ditch. At SP 646679, further enclosures and two parallel ditches were recorded.
The cropmarks are all located on Northampton Sand and Ironstone
{6} Two trial trenches were excavated at Old Coopers. Three linear ditches were identified (one ditch was present in both trenches). A sherd each of Iron Age and Roman pottery were found. The ditches are likely to be associated be boundary ditches associated with agriculture and/or water management.
{7} Archaeological observation confirmed the presence of the northernmost ditch recorded during the evaluation. Also identified was a pit which contained late Iron Age/early Roman pottery and fire-cracked stone.
