Full Description

{1} A surface of 'road' metalling or similar hardstanding at a depth of c.1m below modern bank on Adstone Road.

{2} Trial trenching in the roadside verge by Canons Ashby House uncovered remains of a metalled surface which may relate to a former track within the deserted medieval settlement.

{3} Trench 6 revealed part of a metalled surface, perhaps representing a former trackway. The metalling was of large water-worn cobbles, worn blocks of ironstone and flint nodules set onto the natural subsoil. On top of it lay an ox or horse shoe, part of a dog skeleton, flint flakes and a sherd of medieval pottery. Further medieval pottery cam from the pipe trench together with fragments of animal bone.
