Monument record 447/1/3 - Watling Street: Section at SP578716

{2} A section dug across the lane between the hedges by the Rugby Archaeological Group in 1961 disclosed a road surface of cobbles 4-6in in diameter, one stone thick, resting on a layer of smaller stones 6in thick which lay directly on the natural clay.

{3} Section excavated by Rugby School Archaeological Group in 1961. Cobbling found.

{5} Walk-over inspection of Watling Street between SP58007123 and SP56747351. Currently in good or very good condition with no major curreent sources of active damage.
