Full Description

{1} At SP 9597 7258 there are two parallel linear ditches of 30 and 40m in length. These cut the line of the ridge and furrow and do not appear to be geological in origin. Near the northern end of the field is a branching linear ditch cutting the line of the ridge and furrow which may be geological but does not appear to conform to the general form of the other geological features visible within the field.

{2} Crop marks of several linear ditches of uncertain origin, visible on aerial photographs, mapped as part of a survey carried out by the RCHME on behalf of Thames Valley Archaeological Services. The longer sinuous ditch continues into the playing field to the south-west, and the two parallel diches at SP 95977259 are also of uncertain origin, but do not appear to conform to the pattern of the underlying geology, and crosses the line of the ridge and furrow at an angle of 55 degrees. To the north of these two ditches is a single branching linear ditch which may also be geological in origin.
A 1:2500 scale level 3 photogrammetric survey of an area of approximately 41 hectares situated to the north-east of the town of Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire was carried out by the RCHME Air Photography Unit between the 9th and 20th October 1995. The photogrammetric transcription of all archaeological features visible on available aerial photographs was carried out using the AERIAL 2.40 rectification system published by Bradford University.
Copies of the transcription, digital files and the accompanying report are held by the RCHME. (Collection UID: 1030386).
