Summary

Cropmarks of a Ring Ditch and finds of Roman pottery and tile indicate the possible site of a settlement. Flint scrapers have also been found.

Full Description

{1} Roman settlement (SP 824628) SW of the village on clay at 64 m. above OD. Roman pottery, including samian, as well as fragments of roof tile have been discovered. Cropmarks are also said to be visible from the air. In the field to the S more pottery and some flint scrapers have been discovered.

{2} SP824629. Unclassified cropmark recorded by Hollowell in 1964.

{3} (SP 824629) Cropmarks (seen) by R Hollowell. Aug 64 (Nothing visible on available AP's RAF 1960) RB sherds found by R Hollowell. Dec 60.

{4} R Hollowell confirms the site and says that only 2 or 3 sherds were found, these were not retained. Site under crop.
R Moore (Keeper Northants Mus) has found 2nd-4th c sherd and samian ware, together with a fragment of roof tile at SP 824628.
