Full Description

{1} Not sure whether digitised boundary is accurate; needs checking against all historic mapping.

{4} 3010 acres includes 1770 acres in Sholebrook and Wakefield. Parish liberties exclusive of forest land and old inclosures, were enclosed by Act of Parliament in 1794. 320 acres Duke of Grafton, Lord of the Manor. 490 acres Charles Lord of Southampton and two others of 170 acres and 12 acres.

{5} Hon Mr Bearsclerk Ansby; shows a house standing in grassland.

{13} The c.1608 map (redrawn c.1725) shows that a large proportion of the area was originally covered by areas of coppice woodland as part of Whittlewood Forest. This area of woodland was reduced in size by 1873 when the village was surrounded by a patchwork of enclosed fields and small areas of coppice. A deer park was constructed, originally owned by The Dukes of Grafton, and later by The Lords of Southampton.
