Summary

Indistinct cropmarks of ditches, a small enclosure and a two semi-circular features identified on aerial photographs. A possible pit alignment recorded by the Royal Commission was not observed during the National Mapping Programme. A Roman coin was found during fiedwalking in 1978

Full Description

{1}Enclosure, Pit Alignment and Ditches, on gravel at 56 m. above OD. Air photographs (in NMR) show a group of indistinct ditches, a small enclosure and two semicircular features. A pit alignment runs along the N. side of the site and westwards towards

Pit alignment not detected by National Mapping Programme

{4} Fieldwalking survey undertaken in 1978 found a Roman AE 3/4 coin of Constantine 1- Obv: 'CONSTAN…'; Rev: CAMP GATE; AD 324-30.

{5} Enclosure, pit alignment and ditches (SP 850627). A coin of Constantine I has been found in this area.

{7} (SP 849626) AP shows complex and precise narrow ditch marks in grid pattern (Villa layout). R Hollowell, July 1969. (Nothing visible on avaiulable APs RAF 1960)

{8} R Hollowell has not yet walked this site - the "Villa" is the suggestion of Northampton Museum. Under corn. Possibly a duplication of SP 86 SW2.
