Full Description

{1} Medieval deer park. Licence to Henry de Armenters in 6th year of reign of Richard I (1194) for 40 marks (26.13s4d).

{3} Earl Denby's time, two parks contiguous to each other (deer), upon complaint of tenants converted to other use.

{4} Deer park (possibly centred SP 628 579) in N.W. of parish. First mentioned in 1326. Bridges records two contiguous parks in the 17th century which have 'been converted to other use'. Possible fragment of boundary pale at SP 6250 5626 to SP 6277 5638. SP 65 NW 4 earthworks may have been reused as a park boundary. Field names recorded in the 18th and 19th century suggest the general location.
[HER note: RCHME quoted ngrs puts Stowe-Nine-Churches deer park within Weedon parish, although they do not record it as in Weedon parish. Also quote Bridges as saying that there were two contiguous parks which had by his time been converted to other use. This may point to there having been another part in Weedon adjoining that in Stowe Nine Churches, which may account for some of the confusion.]

{5} Grid reference given by {4} lies north of the parish boundary and may be incorrect. The description given by {4} suggests a centre for the park further east, perhaps at [SP 629 570].
