Full Description

{1} Fieldwalking in 1992 by Northamptonshire Archaeology Unit Contracts Section. Six worked flints and three sherds of Romano-British pottery were recovered. Although this suggests prehistoric/Romano-British activity in the area, it does not indicate any archaeological significance. SP 7045 6165

{2} Geophysical survey identified a cluster of anomalies 150m to the north-east of the main complex. Of particular note is a circular anomaly which may locate a gully defining a roundhouse. A similar anomaly approximately 100m to the south may locate a second such feature.

{3} Trial trench excavation found evidence for Iron Age – Romano-British activity focused to the north of the farmstead [HER 4625]. This comprised the remains of a circular animal enclosure, a possible structure, field boundaries, and drainage gullies and rubbish pits.

{4} A small number of archaeological features were identified in Area B. A single cremation deposit was identified in the north-west of the excavation area, which was dated to the Late Iron Age to Early Roman period. An east to west aligned ditch that contained a small amount of post-medieval glass was present in the north of the area, which may represent a medieval/ post-medieval field boundary. Two features remained unphased and these comprised a north-east to south-west aligned ditch in the south of excavation area and a pit located further to the north.
