Full Description

{1} A silver coin of Harold I, unique in this country, was found in a ploughed field.

{2} An Anglo-Saxon silver penny of the C11th was found recently during hoeing of sugar beet on the north-east edge of Southwick. The coin clearly is one struck late in the reign of Harold I (1035-1040), the eldest son of Cnut by his superseded English wife Aelfgifu of Northampton. More detail given, including photographs.

{3} A silver coin of Harold, unique in this country, has been found immediately east of the village.
