Full Description

{2} A complete record of the memorials in Daventry parish was commissioned by the district council. The majority of the 1260 or so individual memorials dated from the period c.1830-1960, although 32 survived from the 18th century. Of the total number of stones 295 were illegible, but the remainder commemorated some 2144 persons. Bibliographical details of the deceased were shown to have been recorded in numerous instances.Several types of stone had been used for the memorials. Ironstone and sandstone were common at the earliest dates in addition to limestone which was augumented by slate in the early 19th century before being largely superseded by artificial stones. Granite and imported marbles had been frequently chosen in the present century.

{3} Grave memorial survey by B Dix.
